Pet Food Alert!!!
Dog Food
& Treats
Being Recalled
April 11th 2007
Unfortunately I am
hearing of more and more dogs and cats that are sick or have died due to
the contaminated food. And the recall list keeps growing!. Nutro products
were just added yesterday (April 10). The recall now includes canned
food, dry food, and many treats. My friend Lisa's dog Jake died last week,
not from the food, but from cancer. At the crematorium the first question
they asked my friend was if her dog died because of the poisoned food.
The woman there had seen many pets that had died from contamination even
prior to Menu Foods admitting there was a problem.
This is very scary stuff.
I pray that none of your
pets have been victims of this contamination, although all of us as animal
lovers are affected. There is no FDA overseeing pet food and what goes
into making it, although I suspect that this catastrophe will change
things.
The following link from
the American Veterinary Medical Association gives an up-to-date listing of
foods involved. Click on http://www.avma.org/aa/menufoodsrecall/products.asp
for a list of recalled foods. Also
www.menufoods.com keeps updating their list. Make sure to check the
removed items as well as the recall removes products that are supposedly
expired and should have been removed from shelves. I know that I have
purchased expired dog food from pet stores in the past so it’s a good idea
to check that list as well.
A great number of my dog
training clients past and present have asked me for advice about what to
feed their dogs and cats. As many of you know I feed Life’s Abundance and
have for a number of years. I was so pleased with the product that I
actually became a distributor. This is what I recommend and what I feed
my own dogs. Life’s Abundance is manufactured by Healthy Pet Net. They
are not part of the recall; use only human grade ingredients; and do not
use wheat or corn in their products. (Remember that corn was the culprit
in the Diamond Dog Food recall two years ago?) Wheat and corn should not
even BE in pet food! It is not digestible and is linked to many allergy
and behavior problems. You can find more information by going to

Remember that any sudden
change in diet can affect a dog’s intestinal tract and cause some stomach
upset, although right now that is the least of our worries. Normally I
would recommend a gradual change in food, but it is important to stop
using any potentially contaminated food or treats immediately. Things may
get a little gassy…..but it’s worth it!
