Owner Handlers Association

In 1967 a group of dog fanciers recognized the need for an organization devoted to the education of the owner handler. The Owner Handler Association of America, Inc. now boasts members in all fifty states, Canada and Puerto Rico who wear our distinctive pin in dog show rings everywhere. This emblem and the PHA emblem are the only ones the American Kennel Club allows an exhibitor to display in the ring.

The stated objectives of the OHA are:

bullet To encourage and promote the sport of owner handling and training of purebred dogs.
bullet To encourage and promote sportsmanship among purebred dog fanciers.
bullet To communicate with and educate purebred dog fanciers.

The OHA was among the earliest crusaders who urged show giving clubs to provide emergency medical equipment and personnel at all shows and has persistently encouraged clubs to offer Junior Showmanship class. Every year at the Westminster Kennel Club, the OHA presents awards to the 10 top OHA Junior Handlers. The OHA is a vital group active in all areas of the fancy and interested in any innovation which may increase the enjoyment of purebred dogs as well as an educational forum.

Membership is open to all persons who are in good standing with Kennel Clubs and who subscribe to the purposes of the OHA.

Chapters are formed in many areas and interest in the OHA is growing constantly. The chapters hold training classes, educational programs and symposia to benefit the fancier and the community.

Any group of 15 eligible members may form a chapter of the Association with the approval of the OHA Board of Governors. Contact OHA's Chapter Coordinator for further information.

OHA publishes a newsletter, the Advocate, which is sent to all members. The Advocate covers what is going on in the organization and prints articles of general interest to the fancy.
