History
Originally
found in the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland, the Glen of Imaal
Terrier was recognized by the Irish Kennel Club in 1933. However,
dogs bearing a likeness to the breed have been described in writings
as far back as the 1700's. In Ireland small farmers and landowners
had a dog to defend their property and the Glen was one of them.
Even though it's believed the first Glens were brought to the
United States around 1968, it wasn't until the early 80's that
the Glen of Imaal Terrier started to become truly popular in
the United States.
